This was turning point for the game of cricket which was once considered legacy for the rich man, which is now played in all the streets and corners of this country. This month, we are celebrating the silver jubilee of India’s world cup victory. The world cup team of 1983 re-assembled at a dinner party organized by BCCI to celebrate 25th anniversary in New Delhi. The captain of this winning team, Kapil Dev introduced his devils one by one on the stage. Everyone became emotional on this grand occasion. Kapil said “It is very difficult to talk at this moment. We will never know how it happened. In life many such things happen. Later in your life you come to know how beautiful those moments were. Twenty-five years back the love and affection that we got from the people was unparallel. It can never match any amount of money.”

Sunil Gavaskar praised Kapil for his great leadership during the world cup. “He was the man, who showed us the way. Sunil said “The moment when Kapil lifted the Prudential Trophy high above his head is the best moment of my life. Can you imagine India, no-hopers before the tournament became the world champions,” This historical win accelerated the popularity of cricket in Indian subcontinent and it became the most popular game. The team members were presented with a cheque of Rs.2.5 million and also felicitated by Pawar and Sports Minister M.S. Gill. The Prudential Cup trophy was again presented to this one of the finest one day cricket teams of World Cricket. Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Mohammed Azharuddin and former board presidents Salve, Raj Singh Dungarpur, Inderjit Singh Bindra and Ranbir Singh Mahendra were also present in the dinner party.

This victory proved the point that with unity nothing is impossible in this world. I was still one and half year ago to come into this world. But the moment cannot be forgotten so easily. Today when I was listening to FM Radioone which was broadcasting some programmer on this great victory, one can imagine what a feeling was there people where standing against the few TV’s to become the part of such an auspicious moment.
